Poem

Filed under: Other — neumansm @ 8:07 pm

Hope is the thing…

Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune without the words,
And never stops at all,

And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.

I’ve heard it in the chillest land,
And on the strangest sea;
Yet, never, in extremity,
It asked a crumb of me.

Health Care THIS IS NOT MY OUTLINE

Filed under: Metaphor — neumansm @ 3:41 pm

THIS IS NOT MY OUTLINE

I wasn’t there for the end of last Tuesday’s class, so I’m not for sure what I am suppose to do…
I did read the syllabus, but I’m still confused…

Hilary Clinton had a good idea by stating that all children would get health care, but there are many cons to this.
-who’s going to pay for all the children?
-will our taxes be raised?
-is the answer giving all children money, or is it down to the core? These days many people are having children that didn’t want them or was an accident.
-people already have food stamps and get money for each child they have

Hilary Clinton
-more affordable than Obama’s
-supply more medical needs of families and insure all children
-lower costs and approve quality and cover everyone
-taxpayers will pay for drug R&D and not drug companies
-no national ban of smoking

Fairytale Editing?

Filed under: Fairytales — neumansm @ 9:08 pm

I think that the three questions presented in class is a good basis to a regular editing job. It can help to create ideas on what actually to comment about/edit. I don’t think that this is always the most effective process, because there are many ideas that may not be said within the answers to the question. Editing papers the regular way can bring up new ideas.
From today, I got many ideas on where Adam and I should “go” with our paper. Having the support of a reader gives me confidence in the story.

Back in Time

Filed under: Other — neumansm @ 8:14 pm

If I could go back in history, I would go back to the 1920s when Judy Garland was born! I would definitely be a participant! I love the clothes they use to wear and how many people acted. The men and women respected each other more, being more polite to one another. I also would love to meet Judy Garland in person; I’m a fan!

Prospectus 1

Prospectus

For this paper I will be rewriting the Prologue, in other words, the story will begin differently. The pages that I will be rewriting are pgs. 1-5.

For the new prologue, instead of just seeing Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Woodman, and Lion, Elphaba will also talk to them and meet with Glinda.

1) Meets up with Glinda and has an argument.
-”Elphaba! It really is you!”
“Who else do you know with green skin?…”
-Talk of Nessarose’s death. Elphaba is extremely sad and angry.
2) Spies on Dorothy and the gang with built up anger.
-”If you say this witch that I killed was bad, how terrible is the sister?”
-They speak of anger and fright of the witch (Elphaba).
3) Says a few words to “the gang”.
-She tells them that she has to have the pearl necklace!
-What they don’t know is that the pearl necklace was given to Nessarose (the dead witch) by her father which were originally her mother’s.

*My part of the story will take place as the original prologue did.
*Characters: None are new, except for nicknames.
The Wicked Witch of the West (Elphaba)
The Good Witch (Glinda/Galinda)
(Dorothy)
(Scarecrow)
(Tin Woodman)
(Lion)

Elphaba: A witch with green skin. Everyone judges her and thinks she is wicked without even talking to her or getting to know her. She feels lonely, and sometimes it gets to her head making her somewhat angry. In reality, she wishes people could see her for who she really is, but the lies of the world have turned her into a “Wicked” reference. One person she misses the most is Glinda (her best friend during the school days). She would never admit this.

Glinda: A goody-goody that always is nice to everyone. Everyone seems to like her. She usually wears lighter colors, making her stand out and create a happy image. Her best friend during life was Elphaba who she really misses. She hopes to meet her again one day. She would never admit this though.

Dorothy: The young girl has a light blue checkered dress on and has a cute small dog. Her house fell on top of the Wicked Witch from the East (Elphaba’s sister Nessarose) accidentally. She doesn’t know much about anything in this world of lies.

Scarecrow: He use to guard the fields from crows, but could never scare them since he didn’t have a brain. He is made of all straw and has a good spirit. He believes the Wizard can give him a brain.

Tin Woodman: Before Dorothy came along, he was a little rusty and didn’t have any friends. He is made out of tin and lacks a heart. He believes the Wizard can give him a heart.

Lion: He is ironic, because he is a lion but is a coward. He is a very confused lion and is very indecisive. It’s a wonder how he became friends with people, since he’s usually scared of everything. He believes the Wizard can give him courage.

I will be focusing on pathos-sadness.

I fly down on my broom stick to get a closer look. “Glinda?!” I shout.
“Elphaba?!…I mean Elphaba…Wicked Witch of the West.”
“I don’t see how that fits at all,” I said under my breath.
“Elphaba, it really is you.”
“Well who else do you know that’s green?”
“You shouldn’t be here you know…if the Wizard finds out…”
“Heck with the Wizard, he’s not a Wizard! He’s a judgmental man, without care for all the creatures of the world.”
“Shhh! Shame on you! How dare you say this about the Wonderful Wizard of Oz!”
“Wonderful?! I never thought that, oh nevermind my pretty. You go ahead and live your ‘wonderful’ world, while I go and live MY world by myself!”
“Elphaba!” she stated in a disappointing tone.
I flew away as quickly as I could, annoyed with the self-absorbed new image of my long lost friend Galinda. People can change so much.
As I was flying in the softly-layed sky, I spotted a sparkle from below and slowly lowered myself to see what it was. I spotted a Scarecrow, a Tin Woodman, a Lion, and a young girl who just looked too sweet. There was something wrong, because they were just too happy and no one was happy right now throughout the land. It was like a very contagious disease that has been caught by a majority of people, sadness.

Sexuality- group 2

Filed under: Wicked — neumansm @ 9:36 pm

Throughout the book, I believe that veiws on this topic has really changed. During their years of schooling, the characters were definitely more modest than they become in the section City of Emeralds. Almost the whole section is about Fiyero and Elphaba’s affair.
